Coffeehouse observation No. 263

Two women just walked into the coffeehouse with balloon flowers. What type of soil do you use for balloon flowers, anyway? Full sun or shade? How often do you water balloon flowers? I’m not gonna even ask about balloon flower food. …

I’m brainstorming a possible business idea – Emergency Mobile Coffeehouse. Pick up an old ambulance. Pull out the medical equipment – maybe not the gurney – and put in an espresso machine, coffee urns, folding bistro table and chairs, etc., and then follow the most popular roach coaches to stake a claim on the coffee trade. Could even show up with the siren blaring. … It’s just an idea.

Forgetting that you’ve fully opened your coffee mug can lead to coffee on your chin and the front of your shirt. I know these things, because they happen to me! Why, oh, why? …

A woman in the coffeehouse is using flash cards to study. I didn’t even know they still made flash cards.

I think the WordPress metrics must have gone a little haywire yesterday. It registered 302 visits to my Coffeehouse Observer blog yesterday. That’s pretty good for a tiny blog I barely promote, but I’m not letting my head swell. Before yesterday, the blog metrics registered about 1,366 visits in the entire year since I started commenting on the things I see in the coffeehouse. I have no illusions that somehow the world suddenly “discovered” Coffeehouse Observer. It must be a glitch. But a fun one.

I just spotted a woman at the coffeehouse pull out an 8-inch long propane grill lighter to torch her cigarette. … And I think perhaps her eyebrows.

I am still recovering from the anguish that was yesterday’s game. The Jets team that was expected a month and half ago finally showed up in Foxborough … to play the Foxborough Community College Patriots. The Pats were awful yesterday – Brady throwing behind everyone and an INT, two dropped TD passes, fumbles, poor special teams play – and the team did not deserve to win. I will drown my sorrows in coffee! … When does spring training being?

Just went into my backup coffeehouse – Exotic Java on Ben Holt in Stockton – after being away for two months or so and the barista says to me: “Hey, there, how ya doin’? Still drinking the usual?” Yes, yes, I am. She even walked it over to my table as I was setting up my laptop. Cool! … Oh, and it’s right next door to a tattoo parlor. You can get hyped up on a Red Eye and get a tattoo all in one visit!

The guy sitting next to me in the coffeehouse either has the worst cold known to man — and woman — or he is attempting the mating call of the Mongolian yak! … I am now showering in Purell.

Coffee on a rainy morning and watching the Pats. Not a bad way to start a Sunday. I’ve been a Pats fan since I was 8. … And, yes, there was football when I was 8. … I started being a fan just about the time the Pats drafted Jim Plunkett.

OK, should I be freaked out? Two — one, two — Seussian Christmas hats in the coffeehouse. And they are between me and the door. I’m dooooooomed! … I wonder if it’s some sort of lodge hat. And if they’ll slip and do the secret handshake in public.

Smoldering jazz inside the coffeehouse and a man standing outside in a fedora and trench coat. … I think I just sat down into a pulp detective novel. And that’s OK with me as long as no one starts shooting up the place with a gat.

Decided to hang out at the library today instead of the coffeehouse and now I’m really missing the caffeine and the peace and quiet. Yes, missing the peace and quiet – two kids plopped down at the desk next to me and have been noisy every since. And a guy at another nearby table is talking loudly in his cell phone. The guard is now cutting him off. I had to turn up Green Day’s “Nimrod” just so I can think.
